Crew size: you plus five
A run supports up to 6 players — "you plus up to five other people" on one shared wallet. The shared-bank design is what makes invites matter: every friend you add changes the risk math, because one player's max-bet gamble can wipe the whole crew's day. Gamble With Your Friends runs lobbies through Steam: launch the game, create or join a lobby from the main menu, and invite from your Steam friends list — your friends accept from their friends & chat window or their own game client. Two practical notes from playthroughs:
- The in-game proximity chat is built in — once friends are in the same lobby you can hear each other based on position, which is half the comedy of selling each other's body parts.
- The exact button labels in the lobby menu have moved between patches ("(to be verified)" — we will pin them to the current version after re-verification; see updates).
"Can't play with friends" — the usual causes
The most common invite failures we see asked about, in order:
- Not Steam friends yet. Invites route through your Steam friends list — add each other on Steam first, then invite from in-game.
- Looking for it on console. GWYF is a Windows PC (Steam) title only — there is no Xbox, PlayStation or Switch version, so a console-owning friend cannot join your lobby at all. The platform facts (and the Family Sharing workaround for sharing a PC copy) are on our multiplayer & crossplay page.
- Version or region mismatch after a patch. If a friend's client just updated and yours didn't (or vice versa), restart Steam to force the same build before re-inviting.
- Full lobby. Six is the ceiling — the seventh friend has to spectate or wait for a rotation.
